† Jesus is my Lord †

My name is Keith Chan and i dedicate this devotional blog to build a closer relationship with Jesus. My aim is to meditate on His word and to be more Christ-like. As i post in this blog, for public or personal eyes, i pray that the Lord will bring my heart closer to him and give me a new burning passion to worship Him.

The song included on this blog really expresses God's ever-growing love for me and cause me to worship Him. I strongly suggest listening to it!

Love

John 13:34

34"A new command i give you: Love one another. As i have loved you, so you must love one another. 35By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

God's five purpose for my life [ #2 ]

2. You bring God glory by learning to love other people in God's family.

This second purpose is called Fellowship, and it is preparation for eternity where those who have accepted God's son, Jesus, will fellowship together forever.

When you commit your life to Jesus Christ, you become part of God's family. The life God intends for you to enjoy is more than just believing; it also includes belonging. Why? Because learning to love is one of the greatest lessons God wants you to learn on earth before taking you into eternity. St. John wrote, "Our love for each other proves that we have gone from death to life." and St. Paul said, "Accept each other just as Christ has accepted you; then God will be glorified."

Your second great responsibility is to learn to love as God does, because God is love and he wants you to be like Him. That's why getting connected to a local church as your spiritual family is essential. You cannot fulfill God's second purpose for your life on your own. He made us to need each other. Jesus said it is the proof that we really know Him: "As i have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

My reflection:
• Fellowship is preparation for eternity.

- Come to think about it, i fellowship with my cell mostly after service, and that itself is pretty rare also. Are we spending enough time together? Are we spending enough time together with others? Seems like i have the 'cant-be-bothered' attitude. Always using whatever spare time i have to satisfy my own desires (play games, watch TV, etc)

• Learning to love is one of the greatest lessons.

- Okay i have to admit i dont show love to those who dont love me first. I'm pretty afraid of rejections and disappointments and thats why i dont. I think i should make an effort to love first, not because i have to, but because it delights God.

• Accept each other just as Christ accepted you.

- Wah this one i am super guilty. I really have a grudge towards a handful of people in church. And i simply just hate something about them. Well i must be more Christ-like and from now i must be more sociable towards them. I'll start with a simple smile.

• God made us to need each other.

- Again another one i'm guilty. I always have the independent attitude towards how i do my work or i lead my life. I always want to depend on myself and not ask for help. My mindset was always 'if you want it done right, do it yourself'. Gotta get the lone-wolf mindset out of my head and start accepting help from people.

God's five purpose for my life [ #1 ]

1. You bring God glory by getting to know and love him.

The first purpose of your life is called worship. It is your number one responsibility on earth. "Some people have missed the most important thing in life - they don't know God." You may know a lot about a lot of things, but if you don't know God personally, you're missing the first reason you were created.

Worship is far more than going to a church service. Worship is a lifestyle of enjoying God, loving Him, and giving ourselves to be used for his purposes. We worship God by enjoying him! C.S Lewis said, "In commanding us to glorify him, God is inviting us to enjoy him." God wants our worship to be motivated by love, thanksgiving, and delight, NOT DUTY. When you use your life for God's glory, everything you do can become an act of worship. The bible says, "Use your whole body as a tool to do what is right for the glory of God."

Until you begin fulfilling your firs purpose, you won't be able to fulfill the other four.

My reflection:
• Our first purpose in life is to worship God.

- Lifestyle of enjoying God. To me, i think i should be giving praises to God for all the little things that i take for granted (e.g spiritual family, house, talents, etc), and i should trust in the Lord if things go awry. And i serve God using my talents.

• Worship is not just going to church, but enjoying and loving God and allow Him to use us for his purposes.

- On hindsight, i should have denied myself and served in the choir for God on the last service.

• To glorify God, it is to enjoy God.
- Now i think about it, i have only been being a Sunday christian. What about my other days? Did i chuck God to the side and tackle my life alone? A bad habit that happens to me is that i skim through Psalms when i should be meditating on the message.

• Worship should be motivated by love and thanksgiving, not duty.

- Again, worship is not just singing songs and dancing for Jesus, but also allowing him to use us for His plan. I sing my best for God during service but i am self-conscious about jumping for Him. I should overcome that fear again!

• Everything can be an act of worship if you use your life for God's glory.

- Yea i wanna make God happy. He has done so much more for us. I should devote and surrender my life to God and all other aspects.
